Allopathic science is dominated by reductionism – the theory that every complex phenomenon, especially in biology or psychology, can be explained by analyzing the simplest, most basic physical mechanism that are in operation during the phenomenon. Allopathic Medicine is based on only treating the symptoms of aa disease via drugs or surgery alone.

Holistic sciences is based on the theory that parts of a whole are in intimate interconnection, such that they cannot exist independently of the whole, or cannot be understood without reference to the whole, which is thus regarded as greater than the sum of its parts. Holistic Medicine is the art and science of healing that address the whole person – body, mind, emotions and spirt. The practice of holistic Medicine integrates many forms of alternative therapies to prevent and treat imbalances, to provide optimal nutrition and most importantly, to promote optimal health.

Holistic thinking will be stimulated by exercises using phenomenology and in tackling challenges related to ecology, biology, holistic health, holistic nutrition and natural healing studies.  This program will set forth a coherent methodology of holistic inquiry, providing a rigorous and ethical framework for a more coherent and timelier science.

Interactive, experiential and participatory learning encourages novel approaches to scientific investigation. Various non-traditional teaching formats, learning experiences and assessments are facilitated. Investigations are holistic in the sense that they are embodied as well as rational/intellectual and often result in different outcomes to traditional styles of research and reporting.
Students will experience a profound personal transformative learning journey contributing positively to ecological, sustainable living, economic and social change.

Program Goals

According to the World Health Organization, in Africa, up to 80% of the population uses traditional Medicine for primary health care. In industrialized countries, adaptations of traditional Medicine are termed “Complementary“ or “Alternative” (CAM).

The goal of our unique program is to train students to objectively assess the safety and efficacy of various complementary and alternative Medicine (CAM) modalities and explain the mechanistic basis for CAM therapies such as  Homeopathic Medicine, Naturopathic Medicine, Herbal Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayurvedic Medicine, Vibrational Medicine, Energy Medicine, Holistic Medicine, Mind/Body Medicine, Holistic Nutrition and Holistic Lifestyles Philosophies as interpreted by both Eastern and Western philosophies.  By embedding CAM principles and paradigms firmly into an educational format, we are preparing a new generation of holistic educators, and researchers and practitioners for the challenging task of delivering the health education of the future: a multi-disciplinary evidence-based approach to health education characterized by more effective health maintenance and disease prevention.
